Dr. Marife D. Corre

She is happily married to Professor Edzo Veldkamp and blessed with a son. She is a research scientist based in the Institute of Soil Science and Forest Nutrition in the University of Goettingen, Germany. Fe was born in Alicia, Bohol on February 12, 1967. She finished grade and high school in Alicia school with Honors. She finished Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, major in Soil Science, as a Cum Laude at VISCA (Visayas State College of Agriculture, now, Leyte State University) in Baybay, Leyte. Right after graduation she helped support the studies of her younger brothers. She got a job as Extension Officer of the Bureau of Forest Development in the Municipality of Talibon. She went back to VISCA and became a Science Research Assistant for two years. She then came back to Bohol and became the Agricultural Development Officer of the Agricultural Training Institute based in Tagbilaran City.

While working she applied to the University of Gent, Belgium for admission to Master in Soil Research and to the Belgian Agency for Development Cooperative for scholarship. She finished her Doctor of Philosophy in Soil Science with Highest Distinction, the only Filipino given the recognition in soil science in the said institution. As a Ph.D. student in Canada, she was employed as Research Associate at the University of Saskatchewan. She went to United States and became a Postdoctoral Research Associate/Soil Scientist in the U.S. Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Research Services, Pennsylvania, USA. She then flew back to Germany and was a Research Fellow, Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, Institute of Soil Science and Forest Nutrition, University of Goettingen.
