Maj. Gen. Carlos B. Holganza

To the line-up of valiant protectors of people and nation is Major Charlie of the Armed Forces of the Philippines. He was born in Tagbilaran City. Charlie studied at Divine Word College where he was a popular campus figure. He took and passed the entrance examination for a slot at the Philippine Military Academy at 17. He finished his studies at the PMA, Baguio City in 1978. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Master in Management at the Philippine Christian University. In 1995, he was with the DFA for a Foreign Language Course – Mandarin. In 1998, he finished Master in Logistic Management at the Florida Institute of Technology. A few years later he went to the US Army War College and graduated with a Master’s degree in Strategic Studies.

He was assigned Battalion Commander of 31B, 61D, Philippine Army. His assignment in the secessionist theater earned him a special feature in the Philippine Daily Inquirer for having “silenced the guns of Buldon”, a municipality of Shariff Kabunsuan where the most notorious MILF headquarters operated with utmost violence. As Brigade Commander in the insurgency-infested Davao area, a local newspaper called him a “warrior-for-peace” for strongly spouting the non-military approach to combating insurgency. He has also participated in seminars, workshops, and trainings and was assigned in the office of the President, Malacañang, Manila as Special Assistant to Former President Arroyo. Since 1978, he has been involved in numerous AFP CMO Programs like being an active leader. He was also awarded the US Army Commendation Medal & 3 Bronze Cross medals from the AFP. Standing true to his advocacy, he runs TRADOC with the slogan “TRAINING TO FIGHT, TRAINING TO CARE, TRAINING TO WIN”.
