The country’s prime exponent in Theoretical Physics, came back to Bohol in 2002 and, together with his wife, co-founded the Research Center for Theoretical Physics in Jagna, Bohol which organizes activities for physicians and graduate students in Physics and Mathematics. Christopher was born in Jagna, Bohol. He is married to Maria Victoria Carpio, who also has a Ph.D. in Physics. He studied at Don Bosco Technical College in Mandaluyong. He was First Honor from his freshman to senior year, graduating Valedictorian in 1973. He was the Associate Editor of the school publication, “The Spark,” and Editor-In-Chief of the school yearbook, ‘Don Bosco’ 73.” Upon graduating on top of his class, he was the Insular Life Education Foundation Gold Eagle Awardee.
He went to the State University of New York at Albany (SUNYA) after he got a grant as a Student Assistant. He finished Master of Science in Physics in 1979 and was recognized as Outstanding Teaching Assistant of the Year. When he came back to the Philippines, he was given the Balik-Scientist Award by the National Science and Technology Authority. At UP, he was given the Chairmanship of the Department of Physics. Simultaneously, he was chosen Chairman of the Planning Committee of the National Physics Institute. Since 1983, He has been an Exchange Scientist in several establishments in Japan. His being a Visiting Scientist in many places abroad is further acknowledgments of his international stature. His scientific researches are almost a hundred in number, published in international publications. Dr. Bernido has gone a long way to upgrade science and education, without expecting anything in return.
