Napoleon Nazareno is the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company
(PLDT), and the President and CEO of its subsidiary, Smart Communications, Inc. (SMART). He is the Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Governors of Asian Institute of Management. He was an appointee of former President Gloria Macapaga-Arroyo
for the government’s Public-Private Partnership. He ranked 91st in the 2009 Top Taxpayers list. Nazareno graduated in 1970 at the University of San Carlos in Cebu with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering.
He obtained his Master’s degree in Business Management from the Asian Institute of Management and completed the INSEAD Executive Program of the European Institute of Business Administration in Fountainbleu, France. Napoleon Nazareno’s career spans 30 years in different industries including packaging, bottling, petrochemicals, real estate, and in the last decade, telecommunications and information technologies. He worked as an Assistant Product Manager for Phimco Industries’ Flexible Packaging Division. He then moved to international firm Akerlund and Rausings as Acting Production Manager for the local office. He went on to occupy senior management position and got promoted as the President and CEO. He became the President and CEO of Metro Pacific Corporation and Pilipino Telephone Corp (Piltel) and became a Chairman. He was appointed as the President and CEO of PLDT in February 2004 and became the President and CEO of its subsidiary Smart Communications in January 2000.
He also serves as Chairman of several subsidiaries of Smart including Wolfpac, SBI, I-Contacts. He serves as Director of companies like PLDT, Smart Communications, Inc., Rufino Pacific Tower Condominum Corporation, and Manila Electric Company, to name a few.
